Previous research projects have highlighted the importance of appropriate communication structures as a decisive productivity factor in the dynamic factory. The preparatory work relevant to the project dealt with static communication processes and focused only on sections of the overall "factory" system. While in the KomFAP project the investigations were limited to the "make" process of the SCOR model, in the new project these are to be extended to the general business process. The transformation of communication structures within the factory against the backdrop of a dynamic corporate environment, its relationship with change drivers and the resulting demands on factory planning have not been taken into account so far.

Example: A company evolves from product to system manufacturer (change of business type). With the expansion of the product portfolio, the procurement and production processes have to be adapted and the delivery model has to be converted from order-related orders to standard parts management (process change). This requires a new form of communication between procurement and suppliers. This communication requirement can be solved by organisational (new personnel department), spatial-architectural (communication zone) or technical (digital alarm system). It must be clarified which adaptation measures are appropriate.

A particular difficulty is the description and recording of the indirect and informal forms of communication which, in addition to direct and formal communication - and thus relatively easy to collect - are of importance for the factory operation and the genesis of knowledge in the company. There is neither a holistic model nor a method for describing and designing process and communication structures in the dynamic, versatile factory.

The following key questions arise:

    • Can holistic DESCRIPTION and CHANGE FORMS be formulated for companies that capture the dynamics of "communication structures","business type","business processes" and "factory elements"?
      • Can be placed between the above mentioned. represent dynamic interdependencies and links of effects as an EFFECT MODEL, from which effective LEVELS FOR FACTORY PLANNING can be derived?

Can business typical characteristics of the above mentioned Descriptive characteristics are defined as generic REFENZPROFILE (should) with which concrete change measures (migration paths) can be derived for company-specific communication structures (actual)?
